Coimbatore is one of the largest city in Tamilnadu, with a population of more than 16 lakhs. Having more than 34,000 small, medium, big Industries and Textiles. The city is situated in the utmost west of Tamil Nadu. It is surrounded by mountains on the west, with reserve forests and the northern side. The eastern side of the district, including the city is predominantly dry.
The coimbatore is situated on the river of Noyyal. So Many lakes and ponds were constructed near the rivers during ancient periods. The extremely rich rich black soil of the region has contributed to Coimbatore's flourishing agricultural industry and, it is in fact, the very successful growth of cotton has served as a foundation for the establishment of its famous textile industry. They support high concentrations of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrate species. Coimbatore Urban wet lands harbours more than 126 species of resident and migratory birds, with August – November being the peak season.
At the opening of the present century there were ten taluks in the district viz., Coimbatore, Bhavani, Sathyamangalam, Dharapuram, Erode, Palladam, Udumalaipettai, Karur, Kollegal and Pollachi. The rich productive soil and tropical climate is excellent for the growth of tea, cotton, paddy, millet, oil seeds and tobacco. The coimbatore city is known for it is educational institutions. Coimbatore Agricultural University is renowned as one of the best colleges of it’s industrials, technology, traditions and age previous customs are still held in high esteem. |
